About

I am Brenda Gibson, a designer-maker and tutor specialising in weaving original one-off pieces by hand, working from my studio in Balham. I typically work in fine natural yarns – silk, cashmere, wool, cotton and linen – as appropriate to the investment of time in each individual piece. I also practice a lesser-known technique for woven jewellery called ply-split braiding. In addition to designing and making my own work, I continue to hand-spin yarns for pleasure and I teach all of these techniques.

Special pieces can also be commissioned.

I am a member of Complex Weavers and the London Guild of Weavers, and a past winner in the Fashion and Textiles category of the V&A Museum’s ‘Inspired by …’ competition.
Learning to weave was an inspiration, leading me in a completely new direction of creativity. Its limitless potential from mathematically complex designs to elegant simplicity is endlessly fascinating and the sight of beautiful cloth mindfully growing before my eyes is a source of great joy.
